MetroPCS

In June 2008, MetroPCS became the first major US carrier to publicly offer to unlock phones. Unlike other traditional wireless carriers like AT&T Wireless and Verizon Wireless, MetroPCS offers service without requiring a contract or a credit check. MetroPCS’s customers can buy from indirect retail outlets and the remainder from company-owned retail stores. Thus, they can choose unlimited local call plans. They can also add services such as unlimited text messaging, voice mail services, mobile internet browsing, and caller ID, for between $5 and $20. MetroPCS have increased revenue by selling more wireless services to each customer on average.

Today, MetroPCS have rolled out service in Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City, with a total population of 30 million people. Furthermore, the company had continue to do such business strategy of no long- term contracts, unlimited fixed price calling plans, and customer retention by keeping price low as it enters in the market. Also, MetroPCS believes that most of the remaining growth will be in no contract and low-income demographics. They remain competitive despite of the fact that they do not require and maintain national coverage and not have spent as much as competitors do to attract business. They also avoid paying competitors for use of their networks focusing on urban centers.
